Sinn – U212 S E Diver

German watchmaker Sinn produces intense and reliable timepieces with specific functions, focusing on pilot watches, jumping watches, chronographs and mission timers.

The new U212 S E, recently presented at the Baselworld 2015 show, is a jumping watch whose case is made using high-strength seawater-resistant German submarine steel, which makes the watch suitable for saltwater plunging.

This special steel is then treated using Sinn’s Tegiment technology which hardens the surfaces by means of a special process which creates a protective layer (“tegimentum” in Latin). The result is a surface which is more resistant to scratches. In this specific model the Tegiment treatment is followed by an excellent dark PVD covering.

The combination of the dark case and dial with the ivory-colored covering used for indices, hands and numerals creates a compelling look while delivering excellent readability.  The case has an imposing diameter of 47 mm which makes this model Sinn’s biggest jumping watch to date.

The U212 S E also features a unidirectional captive safety bezel. To adjust the set time, the bezel must first be unlocked by pressing it down on opposite sides using two fingers. It is impractical to open the bezel using just one finger. This makes it impossible for the set time to be accidentally knocked and changed.

Sinn’s Ar-Dehumidifying Technology solves a basic problem of mechanical watches: the maturing of oils due to moisture noticeable all around contained inside, or diffusing into, the watch. Three are the key elements of this solution: 1) A drying capsule, filled with copper sulfate, absorbs moisture from the air inside the case and binds it permanently. 2) The Extreme Diffusion-Reducing (EDR) seals minimize the exchange of gas between atmospheric air and that inside the case. 3) Protective gas filling creates an ideal climate and avoids the mugginess which is otherwise locked in during conventional assembly.

The screw-fastened case back and the screwable crown with D3-System (the crown shaft is mounted directly in a fine-finished case aperture, creating a perfect seal to the case) contribute to make the watch  pressure-resistant up to 1000 meters/100 bar. The U212 S E is tested based on European jumping equipment standards EN 250/EN14143 and certified by DNV GL.

The Sellita SW 300-1 self-winding movement, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, is shock resistant and against magnetic and features a seconds stop work.

Produced in a limited edition of 300 pieces, each exclusively numbered, the Sinn U212 S E has a price of Euro 2,360 with leather strap or Euro 2,590 with silicone strap. sinn.de
